After an absence of five years, Art@Dean returned to All Hallows, Upper Dean for the weekend of the 6th August 2010. With the proceeds promised to be shared between All Hallows and the Dalton Hall. With 50 artists and contributors submitting over 300 works ranging in price over £1,100 to 40p the challenge was on to make it worthwhile for all. Over the Friday preview evening and the following two days it is estimated that over 300 visitors arrived from all the six parishes and much further afield so that at the close on Sunday. The total income amounted to over £7,000 with over 50 visitors ordering original works, prints, wood carving, pottery and ceramics, fabrics, photographs, and sculpture. A veritable broad canvas of work.
The total proceeds distribution to the two charities was over £1200 making the effort involved in the organisation and set up of the event more than worthwhile. Congratulations are due in particular to Marian Limb and Stephen Hall who took up the challenge, back in March of this year, of reinstating what had always been a very popular village event. During the setup they were assisted by Annette Brooks and Ted Welburn and by John Braga who counted up the proceeds afterwards.
The village helpers included Ruth and Katie Holmes, Lynda Holyoake, Jane Wade who hung all the artworks so brilliantly to a very demanding time scale, with the setting finished off by Jackie Ashby’s superb flower arrangements throughout the Church.
